Not for beginning readers. All of these in this series are not for beginning readers. Has long sentences and contractions, neither of which are for beginning readers. The stories are cute amd my kids like the pictures, but not really edited for beginning readers as advertised. I bought 4 of the Ree Drummond beginner reader books and not one is for a true beginner

I just heard that Charlie the Ranch Dog passed away. It's so sad. Our family is in love with Charlie and these wonderful books. There's no dog like Charlie but I hope Lee finds that another puppy for their wonderful family that she can share with her readers.

I ordered this book for my literacy based preschool. I am a reading teacher and this book works for my beginning readers who have established some basic sight words and have very good concepts about print.

This was giving to a teacher that wanted to make sure all her new first grade students received one on their first day of school. And it was a hitðŸ˜„

It was a cute story. Well written to hold a child's attention.

As a Christmas stocking stuffer idea for beginning readers, we highly recommend this winter installment of Charlie the Ranch Dog discovering the wonders of snow and even his inner hero.This is a terrific treat for youngsters and basset hound fans alike.Rating: 10/10.

All of these Charlie the Dog books are cute and kids will love them. Having Amazon Prime sure does help with my budget as I don't have to pay for shipping and can order lots of books for the grand kids! These particular books provide showing how helping others is the thing to do!

I am disappointed. I am a statistician and non-MD epidemiologist actively engaged in research and the training of clinical and non-clinical users of research. The author of this book, a senior British MD, certainly knows her way around the arena of research publishing. The overall presentation is old-school and bleak, focusing on the myriad of errors and biases that make particular research projects "useless" much more than on the continuing efforts of experts in research design to systematize good practice. In fact, many "biases" in today's research practice are explicit, pragmatic choices whose effects are a matter of measurable degree. Dr. Greenhalgh might seem to agree about the pragmatism, but the part about measurable impact is not on the agenda here at all. Her presentation is about total failures, easily detected via checklists. One recurrent motif is to conflate mistaken design practices (malpractice?) that may have been published in the past but automatically get manuscripts rejected today. Surely the quality of published research has improved over time. Since Madame Curie? Since Jeckyl and Hyde? Galen?My reading of the chapters covering topics about which I am most expert is that the advice on offer is not helpful or up-to-date. On questionnaire-based research, we are told that response rates under 70% are unacceptable-- a binary, blanket treatment of a continuous quality and cost measure. Further, we are instructed that questionnaire items requiring retrospection or honesty from respondents are "invalid"-- again a binary treatment of a subject that has fostered much innovation. On sample size and power, an initially smart dissection of the issue degenerates into tricky locutions without much helpful elaboration. How many variants of the intervention are to be included? How many subpopulations deserve separate analysis? Is a bigger sample always better? That's what I deal with routinely as a researcher, but I don't see it here.A book like this is very much needed. But the premise of this book is that medical practitioners need a primer, written by a trusted insider, that will make them more informed participants in evidence-based medicine (EBM). All well and good. Such a book cannot, however, turn a practitioner untrained in research into a journal editor-- but it surely feeds that hope in any reader. A much shorter book could have served to make EBM consumers sufficiently wary of the challenges of research. As an educator I cannot conceive how to overcome this book's tone while teaching medical residents, for example, to assess research for their own practice or to participate in research at their institutions.

Lots of good information and a great read for people who need to know how to read research papers correctly. I have issues with the number of parenthesis and the number of sentences contained in a single parenthesis, it makes for very confusing reading. Additionally the book tends to repeat itself frequently, making for long and tedious chapters.

Had to have this for school. I still can't believe I paid $47 for this book. Did not care for her style of writing- too wordy. Too much money.

The quintessential introduction to understanding how clinical trials actually work, and deciphering the meaning and implications of their findings. A must-have.

Easy read and helps provide useful information to discriminate between good and bad studies.

A very good book on the topic evidence based medicine. Easy to read and understand. Contains lots of useful references. Unfortunately in the Kindle edition of mine the page numbering is missing in the index.

JP Beaumont is my favorite Jance character and has been for some time. After reading many in his series, I decided to read the first one. Somehow I missed it.It's a very good introduction into the main characters. They're actually pretty well developed in the first novel. I've always liked the setting and intricate descriptions she uses for Seattle.Following novels touch on Anne Corley. Here we get a good dose of her. It's a plot which is a little far-fetched, but a very enjoyable read none the less.The reader can wonder what direction the climax will take. After, the actual ending, Ms. Jance writes a very good epilogue wrapping the book up nicely.

This is an intriguing start of J P Beaumont life as homicide detective. Having read other books about him it was interesting to read the story of his wife Anne. The death of a little girl who brings the lady in Red to town also brings more with her into Beaumonts life. This is a suspenseful story with several twists that keep you guessing who the killer is. Surprising last few chapters that will make you glad you read this book. Five stars well earned!

This was an excellent mystery, written by an author, J. A. Janceâ€™s, who never disappoints me. I havenâ€™t followed the J. P. Beaumont stories, but enjoy the few I have read. This is one book I expect to reread. Some of the characters were horrendous and iâ€™m Glad Iâ€™ve never met anyone like them. Usually, Iâ€™m drawn to a book because I relate to the characters. In this book, I was drawn to the uniqueness of the situations and I got caught up in the twists and turns of the mysteries instead.This series is quite different from Ms Janceâ€™s Joanna Brady and Ali Reynolds series. Not what I expected, but very glad I found this series, as well.

In this book, we meet Seattle homicide cop, J. P. Beaumont and his new partner, Peters, as they investigate the death of a five year old girl. Beau meets beautiful Anne Corley, who travels the country attending the funerals of child abuse victims. Religious cults, romance, and the foundation of a strong partner relationship with Peters. Intriguing story with an unexpected twist at the end. This series is best read in order.

I've read three or four others in the Beaumont series, and I have to say this one is my favorite so far, though I do know it's the first of the series. They will all be favorites for me, because they're set in my birth place and home town of Seattle. The stories seem so much more real when you can see the scenes in your mind. But that is certainly no distraction from Jance's great writing abilities. It's just an added attraction for me. I really love the way her books are so smoothly written. Everything is so clear and characters' feelings so easy to understand. I almost never have to reread a passage to get the meaning, when written by Jance.This particular Beaumont book was also very twisty, and interesting, because it tells of Beau's life preceding all the other novels in the series. It explains how a cop can become wealthy and what happened to his first wife. I loved it!

I met Ms. Jance in Salt Lake City. she was on a book tour and I was her chauffer. I learned that she wrote murder mysteries and such. Stuff I love to read. I went on Amazon and this is the first book I read in the J.P. Beaumont series. It went so well, I am now on book #14 in the series. Written in first person, my favorite format, we learn a bit about the Seattle homicide detective and his world. The stories are well written and easy to follow. Which is not to say that you will predict the outcome. Read and enjoy!

I've been a fan of J.A. Jance for some time so when I found this in my Kindle arsenal, it was time to settle in for a good read. I wasn't disappointed.I liked Detective Beaumont but man, he was a fool for Anne in more ways than one! Early on he wasn't sure of his new detective partner Peters and at times, probably resented his intrusion. However, by book's end, he really came to appreciate him. You could see that they make a good team with Peters asking the right questions of possible witnesses.Some of those witnesses belonged to the church that Brodie was the pastor of and I would like to have found out what became of them in light of all that went on.I think it was easy to sense something was up regarding a particular character the first time that person is introduced. I'm not sure however whether I thought about it all that much but I did question Beaumont's judgment. I won't get into that further however lest I should give away something vital to the story.

This is the first of the series by J.A.Chance introducing us to homicide detective, JP Beaumont. Look, this is not a Pulitzer prize, here. It's a very simply written murder mystery. If you like murder mysteries, I don't think you will be disappointed. If you like predictability....this book will NOT have you guessing. I'll probably ready another in the series, but I have a feeling that they will all be pretty much the same.

Ahhh I had been going through the kindle store when this book came up as a recommendation I seen the title and blurb and was like I needed this!!!! I been major fan of Buffy the vampire slayer since i was kid growing up in the 90s that show and the world/fandom it and it's many spinoffs has impacted my life in various ways there's many lessons to be learned from it but I digress slayer brings in the descendents of Merrick Buffys first watcher and how they are handling things after Buffy had saved the world but the cost was magic being gone this was gut wrenching epic read filled with some familiar faces and many new ones can't wait to see what comes next keep up the fabulous work kiersten white

Despite never being a Buffy fan, I was intrigued by the idea of this story.And for the most part, I really enjoyed it. Itâ€™s not without its issues, but I think most people will like it for its references and fun factor.Nina is initially weak. Not a Watcher, she spends time healing...which seems to be her calling. Until something big changes insider her. And she becomes more. Along with this new aspect of her comes some changes to her world. The reappearance of demons and worse, her former crush.So, I could sympathize with her about a lot of things in her life. It wasnâ€™t hard to feel sorry for her. But I also felt her inner dialogue became repetitive after a while. She worried CONSTANTLY about the same things. She also thought the worst about her mother (which I could completely understand).As sheâ€™s trying to unravel the reason for the demons reappearance, sheâ€™s also trying to handle her new abilities, find out what her mother is hiding, decipher her feelings on her former crush, etc. There is a lot going on, but it was almost too drawn out at times. This is the first book Iâ€™ve read from White, so I canâ€™t say for sure if sheâ€™s always wordy, but yeah. I was tempted to skim more than a few times just to see if SOMETHING would happen. Eventually it does, but itâ€™s really close to the end. Probably the last 15%. Which really makes up for the pacing issues I had for the rest of the story.I wasnâ€™t surprised by the â€˜revelationâ€™ towards the end. Itâ€™s pretty easy to see coming if youâ€™ve ever read any story in which a character comes off as too perfect. Itâ€™s a neon red flag, for real. So while it wasnâ€™t surprising, I was surprised at other pieces. (And omg, the epilogue is GENIUS!!)Anyway, enjoyable for the most part. Youâ€™ve just gotta trudge though a lot of...teenage angst and questioning of themselves. I do look forward to seeing what happens next for the characters and will definitely pick up the next installment!

I have to admit, I tried to read this book slowly. I wanted to savior every minute of it. Buffy is one of my favorite shows and having a story within Buffyverse is absolutely awesome. The storyline is great, the Buddy scenes are spot on, and I loved every second of this book.The cover says Book 1 so I will impatiently wait for Book 2. Please write it quickly.

Iâ€™m a huge Buffy fan. I have all the original books that came with original stories and have also loved the comics.This book is set between seasons 8 and 9 of the comics. It references characters we know and love, while introducing new ones for us to fall in love with as well. True to Buffy form, thereâ€™s a prophecy circling the slayer in question that culminates in the final act.Itâ€™s well written and has characters that seem like real Buffy characters.Definitely give it a chance.

This was a tough book for me to rate. I enjoyed it, but I also had some big issues with it. The book is (mostly) stand-alone, though basic familiarity with the Buffy TVS universe is helpful to follow the story. The author weaves some background into the narrative; in the continuing Buffy comics, she destroyed the Seed of Wonder, which was the source of magic on Earth. Slayers and vampires still have their powers, but no more can be called/made. This is key because the protagonist became the â€œLast Slayerâ€ called before that happened.I enjoyed the book mainly because I liked the world-building, and the idea behind the main character. What happens if a healer, someone who wants to help others, becomes a Slayer? Nina believes whole-hardheartedly in the mission of the Watchers â€“ an organization practically destroyed by Buffy. She has issues with Buffy and Slayers in general, so when she becomes one, it creates an internal conflict. She struggles with the violence her Slayer powers engender: stake first, ask questions later. Her instinct is to kill any and all demons, and she has to fight that when she comes across a wounded demon. One who doesnâ€™t harm humans and is part of a greater conspiracy that could threaten everyone she cares about. Some readers were annoyed by the fact that Buffy doesnâ€™t take part in the story but is referenced often (usually in Slayer dreams) as a target of anger. That didnâ€™t bother me because it made sense to me that her actions throughout the years would make her a polarizing, even vilified, figure. She did destroy the Watchers and surely some Slayers would not be happy to have that power, and the life-threatening danger that comes with it.What nearly ruined the book for me was the overwhelming amount of angst. Much more than Iâ€™ve encountered in the many other YA novels Iâ€™ve read. Ninaâ€™s constant self-doubt, and intermittent whining, made it difficult to root for her at times. And, I hated the fact that the characters become conveniently stupid to help propel the plot. Nina immediately puts her trust in people she barely knows because they "believe in her" and are happy sheâ€™s now a Slayer. The bad guys are telegraphed so strongly they may as well have had blinking neon signs: â€œDo Not Trust Me.â€ And, other characters know she is a Slayer, but dismiss her dreams out of hand even though Slayer Dreams are a critical part of the mythology and Nina has proven at least once that she has them.Naturally, Nina and her sister are part of a prophecy, and have a still hidden enemy within their ranks, so this is meant to be the first of a likely (YA standard) trilogy. And, I enjoyed the book enough that I would read a sequel. I just hope the author tones down the angst.
