I’m obsessed with Ransom Riggs’ wildly creative world packed with heroic, heartwarming characters, supper baddies, and incredible settings like Devil’s Acre and the Library of Souls.”—Annalyse, Justine Magazine “Fans of the trilogy’s first two books will enjoy Library of Souls for its unique world, fast action, satisfying answers and a thorough tying up of loose ends.”—Free Lance-Star   “Library of Souls will not disappoint.”—Forces of Geek “I was blown away by the way the haunting photographs were woven so seamlessly into the incredible plot. And Library of Souls has simply the most perfect ending.”—Nikki, Justine Magazine “The challenge Riggs faces in Library of Souls is to match the remarkably high standard set by the first two books in the series, either the mind-bending bafflements of the first book or the edge-of-your-seat action of the second. Riggs succeeds, delivering a thrilling conclusion to Jacob’s trilogy.”—Paste magazine “Fans will easily lose themselves in this most peculiar tale of all.”—Booklist  “Thrilling and satisfying.”—School Library Journal   “Enthralling.”—Children's Bookwatch “I enjoyed reading this book so much, the cliched, 'I couldn’t put it down,' doesn’t suffice.”—Geeks of Doom    “Readers are sure to leap right in after the cliffhanger ending of Hollow City, and they won’t be disappointed.”—RT Book Review, 4 1/2 out of 5 stars

Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children is a gripping adventure which I bought to read with my daughters, as many reviewers said it was like Harry Potter, a series they absolutely love. My daughters are pre-teens, but have enjoyed many young adult books, so I made the decision to give this series a try too.We all loved the first book in the set and most of the second book. It wasn't quite as magical as Harry Potter in the sense that the focus of the magic and paranormal events is quite dark. The Harry Potter series is balanced with the benevolent and the beautiful. Attacks and battles happen in Harry Potter, but not in every other chapter as in Miss Peregrine's Children (as we've read so far.) Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series tends more toward the morbid and the mysterious, with lots of blood, attacks and bodies. Now my girls are going through a "spooky stuff and bad guys" phase (as a follow in from fairies and fashion) which is why I got this series, to be honest. They're quite happy to get all this inspiration for their drawings and games. But if you have children who are more sensitive, keep in mind that this series does include gore enough to cause nightmares and anxiety.Personally I have found the books too violent for my tastes. I was a little uneasy about this given I was reading the book to my girls, but it didn't seem to bother them. Now we're not a family who has a problem with profanity, but I think this series is a little heavy on it for pre-teen readers, and this is something I would have liked to have known beforehand. My girls thought the language was hilarious (possibly they thought their Mummy reading such words aloud was even more funny) and we haven't had any problems with them copying it or anything. I think it's fine for teenagers who are suited to some strong language and high stakes, but I know some parents will be concerned about their teens reading a series of this caliber.Unfortunately when we got half way through the last chapter in the second book, my children asked me to stop reading the series they had enjoyed so far. The stakes had got too high for them and the death of one of the newer characters whom they'd become very fond of upset them. We have a plan for me to read ahead and let them know what I think before we read the rest of the series, as they really want to know what happens and love looking at the pictures and wondering what the characters will do next.In conclusion, a brilliant story, but intense with dark themes. Wonderful, lovable characters that kids will relate to, but fairly grown-up themes. Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children gets full marks from me for originality, being fascinating, gripping storytelling and lots of funny moments. But it's probably not appropriate for the sensitive teen or for pre-teens who are just beginning to explore older kids' books. If your pre-teen wants to read this series, read with them or ahead of them to make sure you think they'll be alright with it, as you know your child best.

I bought this boxed set as a gift for my daughter, first for her to read and second for her to have to read to her children as they become old enough. I have reviewed each volume as it was published. The boxed set includes a small portfolio of more pictures of the sort that grace the pages of each volume, which makes buying the boxed set, now that it is available, a better idea than purchasing each book separately. As I have wondered about this series and at least one other, I don't see this as truly YA genre. I mean, yes, intelligent 'tweens and teens can read and love it, but it is, overall, pretty heavy and heady stuff. In short, this is as much for adult fans of alternate reality/history as it is for its purported target demographic. Buy it, you'll love it.

I was happily surprised at how much I enjoyed reading these books. I read the set in 4 days, I enjoyed it that much. Well written, entertaining and well paced. Mr. Riggs was able to suspend my disbelief with interesting characters, entertaining situations, colorful descriptors and comic timing. While I am much older than what I assume the target audience is, the story was able to capture my interest and hold it. I would recommend this set to young, old and in between, alike. I am betting, you won't be disappointed.

Beautifully produced. Full of character. A lot of thought has gone into the design of this box set making it as much of a tactile experience as a reading pleasure. Do hope that more books are produced with this quality!

The Peculiar World of Ransom Riggs is (by many professional book review sites) supposedly written for ages 13-17, and usually sports the designation of "Young Adult" literature. I think this rating system is, at best, confusing. Given the content of this trilogy, it all depends largely on the maturity of the young adult, especially the 13 and 14 year olds. Yes there is some profanity in the books and there is quite a bit of descriptive gore and disturbing imagery, though not gratuitously gritty; Riggs is a very unusual writer with a unique and intriguing style of scribing which rises above most "young adult" books, even those of JK Rowling whom I found to be entertaining for my second childhood. Riggs is as peculiar as his characters and I would go so far as to call his writing "literature". He is as imaginative and tongue in cheek as Lewis Carroll and writes with all the literate brevity and believability as Tolkien. This trilogy is genuinely for all ages, especially 17 and up who can appreciate the lyrical wit, the poetic license, and the dark playfulness with which Riggs populates his pages. These are NOT children's stories by any stretch of the imagination. I am over 60 and I am loving these books, glad to have discovered them. For you adults out there, contemplating getting these for yourselves (really), take this test: do you like JRR Tolkien a lot? Are high-brow fantasy and science fiction writers in your wheel house? Do you like historical novels, history in general, and the popular writers of the 19th century? Do you like Kurt Vonnegut and Ray Bradbury? Lastly do you appreciate re-visiting your youth and equally do you appreciate what the youth of today are contending with? If all of the above are true and you have a special place in your heart for the odd and the bizarre (like old Pink Floyd records and stories by Stephen King and Anne Rice), if you like to voyage into the nether regions of speculative fiction, these books are definitely for you.The trilogy are chock full of peculiar (everyone's new favorite word with these books) photographs, some of them can be disturbing. Riggs second avocation after writing is photography, and he has used this as a riveting feature to not only augment the tales but to amplify them into even more fantastical realism. The trilogy box comes with a bonus package of more photographs that are fascinating and make excellent markers to keep places in the book you might (will) want to revisit! The books are bound beautifully and the case housing them is handsome and built to last. Purchase the Peculiar Trilogy this way and you will have a lifetime personal favorite for your shelf that will no doubt outlive us all. Oh, and like a lot of really really good books, you will want to re-read these, probably more than twice. Ransom Riggs is going to be a memorable author down the decades and beyond, that is certain, this is no pulp fiction.Final Note, try to avoid reading plot descriptive reviews, even if you have seen the movie version of the first book, the spoilers will, well, spoil the journey of surprises (and the book has many more features that could not be presented even by the wonderful Tim Burton). Parents, if your young adult reader had issues with Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows, or finds "dark" storytelling a little too nightmarish, you might want to consider letting them mature a bit longer before taking the step into this peculiar world. Profanity in the books is limited to what is often deemed acceptable for older teens. Use your best judgement, or read it first! You get to treat yourself! Highly recommended for young adults 16 - 96.

I can't understand why some feel that gutter language makes for a good story. I did not finish this garbage.

I've read several of Mofina's book and in my opinion, this was his best so far. Jason Wade is a believable character as is all of his characters. The plot was excellent and the ending breathtaking. Read this for yourselves...you'll be glad you did!

There are a few crime/police detective writers I really admire (Michael Connelly and Robert Dugoni for example) I have found another one. I was caught from page one. Jason Wade, rookie journalist (with a terrible boss!), homicide detective Grace Gardner, mother Rhonda Boland, etc., each had their own perspective of a nun's murder and none were aware of how they were all tangled together in it. Really quite a feat to carry this off without leaving the reader befuddled and irritated. Mr. Mofina managed this well. Without too much descriptors or too much stream-of- consciousness or too little dialogue or all action and no sense, this novel kept me "perfectly" entertained all the way to the end. And as an aside, thank you Mr. Mofina for not making everyone bad or had-to-be killed or there is no justice in this world. Real characters, real situations and probable endings. Sometimes good people have good things happen to them. Nice going.

It was touted as being written by one of the best thriller writers. This book was not a thriller. It was a very standard murder mystery storyline with a poor attempt at a romantic connection. There were a couple of secrets to be found out along with the solution of the murder, but once the secrets were found out they didn't live up to the hype. It was good enough for me to finish, but it wasn't a big page turner.

Seattle, WA. Pioneer Square District. Compassionate Heart of Mercy Shelter. Sister Anne Louise Braxton (49) had died doing what she loved to do; helping the downtrodden & those in dire need.News flash: Brian Pillar was arrested for solicitation, along with 10 other johns in the law enforcement hooker sting.Detective Grace Garner (Seattle PD, homicde), & Detective Dominic Perelli (partner, Seattle PD, homicde), listened to Isabella Martell (Mutual Tower housecleaning) say Roberto Martell (26, grandson, drug dealer, pimp) never came to her place.Yesler Terrace. Detective Garner, & Detective Perelli had arrived at the crime scene.Jason Wade (The Seattle Mirror crime reporter, Grace’s ex-lover), was close behind. The CSI Unit & King County ME were present.Sister Vivian Lansing (60+, Chicago, IL.,) was here to make sure all the funeral arrangements/burial contact of family were taken care of.Kay Cataldo (Sr. forensic scientist) would also examine the body. There were 4 possible suspects. Why did Sister Denise Taylor go see Jason?Whisper Creek Ranch. Jason was going to interview Sister Marie Clermont (retired Sr. council member Compassionate Heart of Mercy Order). Will the murder mysteries get solved & someone brought to justice?I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written who-dunnit murder mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great murder mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. A very easy rating of 5 stars.Thank you for the free author; DailyFreeBooks; Carrick Publishing; Amazon Digital Services LLC.; bookTony Parsons MSW (Washburn)

Perfectly developed characters. Fast moving from the first page. I love that. You start the book and off you go for a ride of a lifetime. Mr. Mofina has you turning the pages as fast as possible to find out the ending, right to the surprising end. Worth all your time spent reading a superb thriller. If thrillers are your preference, read ONCE GONE!

I really enjoyed this book and loved the Bible references as they were so apt in the case of Anne Brexton, the nun!! Who could possibly have killed such a wonderful and dedicated person? Well, I had to read to find out what happened. Great way to start the book – absolutely titillated my curiosity! Had to be more to the story than happenstance! Did enjoy the characters of Jason Wade and his father. I could actually visualize Jason Wade as Rick Mofina back in the days when he was working as a crime reporter– strange huh! (Smile) One thing that did bother me – really bothered me – and maybe I would have been the killer – had it been ME that was working as a journalist.... Are editors really like that??? Grrrr - would make me crazy! Oh well, on with the story... having been in the convent myself, I learned that there are all types of women that turn to God and none of them are saints, nor do they turn into saints. We all strive to do our best no matter what careers we choose. Anne Brexton was striving to atone for her past life. Sometimes, our past lives catch up to us instead of staying behind as we hope. But we are all human and we all have human failings unfortunately. I felt bad that she worked so hard to atone but still paid the penalty. A Perfect Grave was a perfect title for this book. Loved the way the sub plots all came together or should I say, twisted together – neat!! A great read!!!

I loved this book - I recommend starting it on a weekend, as you won't want to put it down! All of the characters were developed in a way that we are rooting for all of them through the book. They all come together as part of the story and wrap up in a very satisfying conclusion. I enjoyed this book.
