Lost legends is an amazing “continuation” of gravity falls! The art is great, the cover and page quality is amazing, the humor is good and the stories themselves are fantastic! These stories aren’t just four random adventures that would be considered filler if they were actual episodes; these stories have meaning, extra lore, character development, heartwarming feels, and even tie up some loose ends that the tv series and journal 3 left open! The stories take place before Dipper and Mabel went home at the end of the summer so I guess it’s not really a continuation, but instead just a bunch of interesting adventures that the tv series and journal 3 never touched upon.Story #1 is a Dipper and Pacifica adventure, but don’t worry, there’s no more dipcifica than there is in the episode “Northwest Mansion Mystery.” This adventure has some good character development for Pacifica! Story #2 is just hilarious and fun, not really serious but still worth reading and impossible not to love, especially if you’re a fan of comic books, graphic novels or manga! Story #3 has the most feels of all four stories and provides some great character development for Mabel! I won’t say too much of what I’m talking about to avoid spoilers, but let’s just say it addresses the whole “Mabel is so selfish” criticism that some people have with Mabel’s character. If you’re one of those people, this story just might redeem Mabel for you! And lastly, Story #4 is an adventure about the Stan twins when they were kids and has some good feels and character development for Stan and Ford! And of course, there’s tons of codes sprinkled throughout the book! All of these stories feel like real episodes, not some haphazardly thrown together cash grab! Overall, just like journal 3, this book is a must read for all gravity falls fans! I implore you not to pass this over by thinking it’s a cash grab or won’t be as good as the show! Lost legends is very much worth your time and money!

Already a big fan of Mr. What’s-His-Face and love the PacificaXDipper ship! Give you a closer look at the bonds between the Stan twins and Dipper and company run through different comic books (can’t stop laughing at manga Gideon) There’s also more than one message hidden in this collection so be sure to keep your eyes open (Hint one of them is when Pacifica is reading from the Journal. The others your on your own)! So stop reading this and buy it already!

This book is AWESOME! So many hidden Easter eggs, jokes, and other things most writers wouldn't put in a book (don't wanna spoil though!). I love it!!!!

This was a fun way to revisit the series.My son has been waiting for this since we preordered it at Christmas, and I think it was worth the wait.There’s some pretty funny stuff going on here - I laughed several times. Of course, my son was so excited for me to read this (he had already read it twice, even though he had only gotten it a couple days earlier) that he was hanging on my every emotion. But I liked seeing him so excited about something.And some of it is so meta.If you’re a fan of the series, I would definitely recommend this.And what does it bode for the future? I don’t know, but I’m really curious to see…

I'm a huge fan of gravity falls and this book is exactly what I needed! The stories are so well written that they feel like they are a part of the show and the art is absolutely stunning. I was blown away at how well done the book is when I first opened it! The cover of the book is also wonderful; it's amazing quality! Its well worth its price!

Lost Legends is a great little morsel that will surely entertain. These colourful stories fall short on straying away from the original feel of the television series. The artwork and writing are alive and fantastic, never giving a dull moment. The look of the book is great, too. With a sleek and wonderfully designed outer shell, to its bare question-marked cover hidden underneath. Definitely a great addition for any Gravity Falls fans' collection.Or even if you're not a fan, just keep this book around anyway. I hear it can ward off those pesky men in black that are always knocking at my do--I mean, your door.

An absolutely lovely collection of tales,brought me right back to the warm feelings I had when watching the show for the first time. It had me laughing three pages in! Each story has amazing charm and the art is just wonderful. I found myself studying all the backgrounds and details. I really hope to see more Gravity Falls comics in the future!

It's "cannon-ish" and tells 4 stories of events that occur between episode 12 of season 2 and the show's end (so more like side stories rather than a continuation). Still, it's written by Hirsch himself and he hasn't lost a beat. And you better like nerdy references because you're gonna get a bunch of them! It's not a long read by any means, but the ride is well worth the price. Now if you'll excuse me, I'd like to read it again...

I was looking for a book on the Batwa Pygimies. This was the only book I could find that even came somewhat close. I was a bit disappointed in that it was written much more like a paper for science. Not able to really extract info that would help me with what I wanted to learn. Truly over my head in the style of writing.

He wasn’t very nice about sharing, and I had the scratch marks to prove it.“Do you think I’ll know anyone?” I asked him. “I mean, besides Cedar and Steve and the kids from Camp Eclipse?” Unfortunately, those kids included Newt, who was always trying to mess with me, and Scorpion, who always picked on me. “I just hope there’ll be other new kids in sixth grade.”If Klawde had an opinion about the matter, he didn’t express it. He stretched and yawned in the little square of sunlight falling on the bed.“The first time I see Newt, she’ll probably try to trip me in the hallway,” I said. “And Scorpion will step on my face.”Klawde swished his tail and rolled over.What was the point of having a talking cat if he didn’t actually talk? I loved him, but sometimes he could be pretty frustrating.“Look at my schedule,” I said, holding up the paper I’d printed out last night. It was so complicated, I needed to go to school just to be able to understand it.“I’ve never had homeroom before,” I said. “Or had to walk around a huge school all by myself. How will I find my classes? And Room 3.5—what does that even mean?”“Raj! You’re going to be late!” my mom called from downstairs.I shoved some color-coded folders into my backpack, along with the rest of my new school supplies.“Lunch isn’t until next-to-last period. I’m gonna starve,” I said. “And what kind of a class is ‘RBX’? That’s not even a word!”Klawde opened his mouth, like he was finally about to say something. But he just yawned again. He rolled onto his back and let the sunlight fall on his furry belly.“Don’t you have anything to say?” I asked him.Klawde stretched all the way out and wriggled his toes.“Oh, have you been speaking?” he said. “I wasn’t paying attention.” Chapter 2I was in a mood most foul.My plans to re-reconquer my home planet were at a standstill, and it was all thanks to that cross-eyed fool, Flooffee-Fyr. Not only had my former lackey overthrown and exiled me, he had also closed all wormholes between Earth and Lyttyrboks, making a return presently impossible.Luckily I knew that double-crossing nincompoop better than he knew himself. Flooffee could manage a coup, but not an entire planet of cats. I had been following the chaos on the Intra-Universal Feline News Feed. Any day now he would call me and beg for me to come back. And once I ruled Lyttyrboks for the third time, I would never again allow that power to slip through my claws!In the meantime, however, I could do little but sit on my backside and watch the intergalactic cat phone, waiting for it to ring. I was so disturbed by this state of inaction that I had napped only eleven times yesterday. And now, when I was trying to catch up on my rest, the Human would not cease his inane blathering.Though I pointedly ignored him, the boy-Human droned on about this new school of his. He was—as usual—helpless in the face of a challenge, and he begged me to share some of my wisdom with him.Yawning, I took pity, and asked what they taught there.“Poison Chemistry? Battle Tactics? The Art of Slash-and-Claw?”He would be more useful once he had learned such basics.But the Human informed me that he would be learning none of these essential skills.“Haven’t you been listening to anything I’ve said?”I already told him I had NOT.I inspected his diagram of classes. “A course in English?” I said, swishing my tail scornfully. “But that is a language you already speak! When both Klawde and Raj acclimate to their new environment, they get a surprise visit from someone from their past. Will Klawde and Raj be able to overcome their differences and become allies with the people from their past?I thought this novel was enjoyable like the first one. It had the same amount of humor and illustrations. I like that even though Klawde and Raj were going through something similar, they both had different outcomes and ways of coping. I hope there are more books to the series as I am looking forward to their friendship continue to grow.

The book is amazing. Incredibly well-crafted by both writer and artist, the story lays a path rich and clever and profound. I cried at end, messily, and I will read it over and over again. Unfortunately, this seems to be out of print, and the copy I purchased, while labeled as being in 'good' condition, had most of the pages falling out. I was lucky, the pages were all there, and I didn't miss a thing (just I had to carry the book around in a ziploc bag to keep the pages together and in the right order! I can't wait for a reprint to come out. At a reasonable cost, please. :) I could stand to have a few copies of this one!

Oh, God! Shockingly sad and beautiful. I didn't realize what I was reading until about 2/3 of the way through, and all of a sudden it all made sense. It perfectly mirrored the experience of the main character in this way. Really well done.

This is a really powerful work that reminds me of my own childhood and how imagination was key to digesting everyday life for me. Barb is a complex character who is at once almost unlikeable, but I would up rooting for her all the same. I really enjoyed how this book kept me guessing as to what was really and what was imagined. We all fight Giants sometimes, and sometimes we win.

I dont know what i was expecting but it wasnt this. it was ok but i could have spent my time on something better.

I Kill Giants was a book that I had heard about for a while now but never got around to picking up. My six year old daughter is starting to get in to reading and I have been picking up books that I thought she would like.I read this before I let her read it and it's a good thing I read it first because the subject matter and some of the language is a little over her age.It is definitely a book that everyone else can get in to.It's the story of eight year old Barbara Thorson. She hunt and kills Giants. Or does she?Barbara lets everyone who will listen know that she kills Giants. She spends all of her time reading books about Giants and keeps her Giant killing Hammer named Coveleski with her at all times. The only problem is, nobody else can see these giants either.The reader spends most of the story wondering if Barbara is just plain crazy, or if there really is something more going on than we can see. There is something going on underneath the surface.This story is about one little girl's fears and dreams, it's about how she copes with events, and solves her problems.Oh and it's about hunting and killing giants.Or is it?

This is one of those graphic novels you loan to someone to convert them into a comic lover.I Kill Giants is the story of a young girl dealing with personal tragedy along with all the normal pains of adolescence. She struggles at home and at school until things come to a head and she's finally forced to face her demons, both real and imagined.The story is well written and the art is brilliant. This is a must read for anyone who loves comics or graphic novels.

Hello there somewhat indie comic book fans,Today I'd like to write a recommendation for you. Basically, I have to tell you a little about myself, first. I have had a growing interest in comics for six months now. I have read a lot of Batman, Watchmen, and a little superman from DC. I've read a little bit of Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and X-Men from Marvel. I've also read plenty of assorted indie titles. I love Kirkman's Walking Dead, and Invincible, as well as Scott Pilgrim. This book, however was recommended by a friend of mine early on. It was my first Image Comics title. I must say, this is one of my favorite books. The characters, a plot that is fluid, but at the very end has a twist that nobody will see coming. The art is the icing on top of the cake.This trade collects the entire miniseries with no bonus content. It's a basic trade with a little thicker than normal glossy stock. The covor has a neat specular effect, where there are characters printed in gloss, so you can only see them when the light hits them right. It is a great value for a perfect story.The writing of Hill is wonderful. He does really great work developing all the featured characters through the plot, which is why the twist hits home so well. I also love the artwork. It's very neat and clean, yet messy in just the right way when action flares up.I want to thank Joe Hill for creating this masterpiece. His creative team's efforts show throughout. I have no higher recommendation for this work of art.

tl;drIf you liked Forever War, as I very much did, you're in for a nasty surprise with this terrible sequel. The book was slow, the plot was inane, and the ending made me throw up in my mouth a little.*SPOILER ALERT*In case you decide to read it anyway, stop here.The book meanders through the story of a family on a dreary outpost planet after the Forever War has ended. The author never develops any of the main characters at all other than, to some extent, the narrator. The narrator unconvincingly convinces hundreds of people to drop their lives and disappear into the future with him. The author wants readers to believe that he and his wife would walk away from their kids -- maybe a bit reluctantly, but still -- mostly because they've become bored. There are long stretches that are devoid of either character or plot development. Then, about 3/4 or more of the way through the book, a never before discovered species that has "super powers" (for lack of a better term) and has been on Earth for hundreds of thousands of years is suddenly introduced. A few pages later, God enters stage right, has a little sit down with the narrator, explains all the mysteries in the book (and in the universe), and then exits stage left. Oh boy. God? Are you for real, Mr. Haldeman? This is supposed to be SCIENCE fiction, not THEIST fiction. If you dug yourself into too deep of a hole to find your way out with a compelling SCIENCE fiction explanation of events, perhaps you should have put the manuscript away for a while while you worked through the writer's block. Perhaps permanently.

I enjoyed about 90% of this book immensely. It carries on from the ending of the Forever War about 20 years later on the planet of Middle Finger. Marygay and William now have two teenage children who happily live with Man. William and Marygay bristle under the relatively light thumb of Man and begin plotting with many of the remaining veterans of the Tauran wars who have settled on Middle finger with them to take a ship and travel at relativistic speeds for 10 years in order to advance 40,000 years of earth time to see if Man has evolved and they find things more to their liking.As the plot advances however something goes immensely wrong and they are forced to head to earth to find out the cause. They arrive on an earth that doesn't really seem all that "Man-like". I would have expected a much more enlightened place after hundreds of years of rule by Man. I won't give away the ending for anyone who wants to find out for themselves but I felt like it was very unsatisfying. I actually thought early on in the novel that it could end the way it did but thought, there's no way Haldeman would take such an easy way out. After the iconic novel Forever War, and a mostly solid novel I just shook my head at the ending.

... just keep on liking the first book in blissful ignorance. It's as if he started out with an idea, wrote himself into a corner, pulled a Deus ex Machina that William Shakespeare would complain about, drops the mic, and struts out of the room. I'll keep reading and loving the Forever War, but this one... ugh.

It’s been years since the first time I read the forever war, I think I was about sixteen. It hit me but it wasn’t until reading it later when I was in my twenties that I realized what I was reading. I grew up in the shadow of Vietnam, in the middle/end of the Cold War. That book was a powerful voice about war and its effects on those who wage it. This started out as a balm to those soldiers then morphed into an existential read on life and why we live it. Loved this book, didn’t answer anything while still answering all the important things.

Not a great sequel to the original "Forever War". I was looking forward to reading it, being a real fan of the original novel, but was disappointed overall with the direction the novel took and its ending. Overall this sequel seems both implausible and rather contrived. If I knew what I do now I would not have purchased it. Very disappointing!

The first half of this book is interesting and I was entertained enough to read it quite rapidly. It was attractive to be offered something where we could hear about our old friends from the Forever War again, however this story really could have substituted in any names and it would have made no difference. I didn't really "feel" that these were the same people. Anyway, that said, I did like the first half.But then it gets very, very weird. Not to put too fine a point on it, is it really Science Fiction to have matter (air, fuel etc) magically vanish? And people who explode because the characters had been naughty and God got sick of them? Come on Joe... A great book keeps you involved, keeps you thinking and suspending your dis-belief. My disbelief just kept growing as I read about stuff vanishing (magic), aliens who just turn up on earth for no reason- oh hang on they have been there for 9k years, people exploding, and then God turning up and putting the people back together because he felt like it. This isn't from the left-feild, this is totally (INSERT YOUR PREFERRED SEXUAL/BODILY FUNCTION REFERENCE HERE).

If you enjoyed the Forever War and felt like it had a heart warming ending, you will enjoy this book. It’s a lot slower and I believe all the bad reviews are from people that think it is “implausible” (but somehow think the Forever War is plausible 😂 it’s science FICTION people) The author is a smart man, and I’m sure he thought very hard about how this story could unfold. Ultimately he decided that there are too many unexplained circumstances in the real world, that would continue to remain unexplained in the future. This book was entertaining and overall a great read!

This is the first book in a while written by a professional author, I have read and it was a joy. No sloppy proofing, all the words spelled correctly, sentences make sense. No more dollar novels for this boy. Haldeman is a true professional. The story is engaging, but read the earlier book first.
