About the Author
Ellen Feld is an IRA/Children's Choices winner (twice) who began writing about horses more than 20 years ago. At first she wrote for small, regional magazines, but within a few short years, her work began to appear regularly in large, national publications. In 2001, while waiting for her next assignment, Ms. Feld wrote a short story about a Morgan Horse. That tale became the first chapter of Blackjack: Dreaming of a Morgan Horse. The book went on to win a coveted Children s Choices award, an honor bestowed jointly by the International Reading Association and the Children s Book Council. To date, Ms. Feld has authored nine horse books, including seven in the Morgan Horse series. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband, two children, ten horses, and assorted other pets.

My daughter and I BOTH love this entire series! We have learned so much about horses through these books and we have deepened our love and understanding of them. Each book in this series is full of adventure and excitement, you don't want to put it down, and yet everything in it is entirely appropriate for ALL ages. I'd highly recommend these books for any horse lover and we are waiting in anticipation for more! :)
Obviously meant for teens, still, the writing and/or editing could use improvement.Still a good read when you don't want to think about much except horses and your younger day dreams.
I met the author when my oldest daughter was just about to turn 8 so I bought a couple of books in the Blackjack series as part of her present despite Ellen Feld telling me that they were for 4th or 5th graders. The books pretty much sat on the shelf for a year and a half. When she was ready to read them she didn't stop until I bought all 7-8 books in the series and she read them all several times and continues read them. For further point of reference she went from The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books to these books. Overall I highly recommend these books for your child of the right reading ability.
I bought the entire set for my granddaughter, who has a Morgan horse of her own. She thoroughly enjoys these books!
Great read for grades 3 and up who are fans of horses

my 11 - almost 12 year old daughter loves this series! they are great. she has re-read the ones she has already and is burning the midnight oil on this already!
